24 fue mi serie favorita durante mucho tiempo, 5 años, hasta que llegó la 6ª temporada, que es la más floja de todas. El hecho de que Heroes se estrenara ese mismo año, tambien tiene mucho que ver, pero este post no es sobre Heroes. Me encanta 24 porque es una serie con un ritmo muy trepidante (todo es en tiempo real, es decir, cada temporada es un dia y cada capitulo una hora de ese dia), es una serie en la que no puedes esperarte lo que va a pasar (no entrare en detalles porque no quiero poner spoilers) y es la serie de Jack Bauer. Me encantan los personajes que son capaces de hacer cosas que la gente corriente no puede (tengo una extraña sensacion de deja vu cuando escribo esto, seguro q ya lo he dicho antes XD). Personajes como Ender, Peter Petrelli (aunque sea tonto XD), Neo (que si, no os enfadéis todas las fans de Peter Petrelli, lo es), Jason Bourne (en serio, cualquier otra persona con todos esos poderes haría las cosas mejor que el :P) y Jack Bauer. De hecho, hay una web de Jack Bauer llamada los Jack Bauer facts (que casualmente es uno de mis links aqui en el blog :D) que hablan de hazañas o hechos relacionados con Jack. Yo los calificaría en dos grupos: los que son reales, es decir, han salido en la serie o son un resultado directo de cosas que ha hecho en la serie y los que son inventados. Mis dos siguientes entradas seran una recopilación de las que más me gustan, separadas en esas dos categorias :).

24 was my favorite tv series for a long while, 5 years, until the 6th season came up, the less good of them all. The fact that Heroes came out that year has a lot to do with that, but this post is not about Heroes. I love 24 because is a series with an action-packed rate (everything takes place in real time, ie: each season is a day and each episode is an hour of that day), you can't expect what's going to happen (I won't go into details because i don't want to say any spoilers) and Jack Bauer is in it. I love characters that are able to do things the average person can't do (i have a weird feeling of deja vu while i'm writing this, i'm sure i've told this before XD). Characters like Ender, Peter Petrelli (even when he's dumb XD), Neo (yes indeed, don't be upset all of you girls who are fans of Peter Petrelli, he is), Jason Bourne (seriously, any other person with all that powers whould do everything better than him :P) and Jack Bauer. As a matter of fact, there is a website hay una web about Jack Bauer called the Jack Bauer facts (which happens to be one of my links here in my blog :D) and talks about Jack deeds or things about him. I'd classify them in two groups: the ones that are real, ie: they are from the series or are a direct result of things he has done in the series and the others are made up. My next posts will be a compilation of the ones i like most, separated in those two categories :).

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

La saga Call of Duty siempre me ha gustado. El primero y su expansión sobretodo, porque algunas de las misiones a realizar aparecen en Hermanos de Sangre. Así que cuando salió el cuarto supe que tendría que probarlo. Lo que no sabía es que iba a ser tan bueno, ni que me iba a gustar tanto. Concedo que el modo historia sea increiblemente corto (si lo comparamos con el resto de juegos que hay por ahí) pero es TAN intenso que merece la pena. Además, gráficamente es genial (si tu grafica puede soportarlo claro): el prólogo por ejemplo, situado en un un carguero en medio del oceano, con tormenta, rayos, truenos, lluvia, es muy impresionante. Tiene también unos cuantos guiños a algunas películas del género como Black Hawk Down o The Shooter, eso siempre gusta a los fans (al menos a mi me gusta ^_^). He dicho ya que la historia es muy intensa? Esque realmente lo es, en el juego pasan cosas a las que no estamos acostumbrados y todos los que me conozcáis, sabéis que eso me encanta. Y no podría hablar de CoD 4 sin mecionar el modo multijugador. Siempre que he jugado online a un juego de este estilo jugaba al Counter Strike, pero ahora CoD 4 ha ocupado ese lugar. Al empezar a jugar sólo dispones de un número limitado de armas y habilidades para usar, pero mientras vas jugando vas consiguiendo experiencia y con eso desbloqueas.... efectivamente, armas y habilidades XD. Mi favorita, como siempre, es la M4A1 con silenciador. Y que conste que he probado otras ;P. Pero como siempre se ha dicho y siempre digo, una imagen vale mas que mil palabras, así que voy a dejar un par de videos para que los vea el que quiera. Aconsejo ver al menos los primeros 25 segundos del primero. Fue el primer video que vi del juego, y me dejo literalmente con la boca abierta. Oh, un último consejo: jugad en inglés!

I've always liked the Call of Duty saga. The first one and itsexpansion more than the others, because some of the missions you have to fulfill appear in Band of Brothers. So, when the fourth one came out I kwew I'd had to play it. I didn't know that it would be so good nor I would like it so much. I will concede that the single player mode is incredibly short (if we have to compare it with the rest of games out there) but is SO intense that it's worth it. Moreover, graphycaly is great (if your GC can handle it, of course): the prolog for example, takes place in a ship in the middle of the ocean, with a storm, lightning bolts, thunders, rain, pretty impressive. It has some nods to a few war movies like Black Hawk Down or The Shooter, and fans always like that (at least i like it ^_^). Have I told already that the story is very intense? It really is, there are a few things that happen that we are not used to see in games, and all of you who know me, knows that I love that. And I couldn't talk about CoD 4 without talking about the multiplayer mode. Every time I played this kind of game online i played Counter Strike, but now CoD 4 has taken that place. When you start playing you only have a limited number of weapons and perks for you to use, but while you play you get experience points and with those xp you unlock... exactly, weapons and perks XD. My favorite, as always, is the M4A1 with silencer. And for the record I've tried others ;P. But as it`s always been said and I always say, an image is better than a thousand words, so I'm going to post a pair of videos for the people to see as they please. I advise you to watch the first 25 seconds of the first one. It was the fist video of the game I saw and left me literaly with my mouth open.

Steganography in Jpeg2000

La imagen de la izquierda es Lenna y es una de las imagenes de prueba más usadas en procesamiento de imagenes. Es la imagen que había en el BOI, que es la implementación de Jpeg2000 que estoy haciendo para hacer mi proyecto de fin de carrera, y como soy un poco vago, pues uso la misma para hacer mis pruebas :D.

Y de qué va mi proyecto? Pues de Esteganografía en imagenes Jpeg2000. Y qué es la esteganografía? Pues es (y lo voy a decir en inglés, porque me encanta esa definición) the art of stealth comunication (o lo que es lo mismo, el arte de la comunicación sigilosa, pero no suena igual ;P). Siempre que me lo preguntan lo explico igual, explicando uno de los primeros usos de esteganografía conocidos. En la Antigua Grecia hubo una vez un señor que quería mandar un mensaje para incitar una revuelta contra los persas y como no quería que lo interceptaran, pues cogió a su esclavo más fiel, le afeitó la cabeza, le tatuó el mensaje en la cabeza y le dejó crecer el pelo. Llegado ese momento, lo envió a su destino y en el destino le volvieron a afeitar la cabeza y asi pudieron leer el mensaje. Esa es la idea básicamente: usar un recipiente que no destaque en el entorno y esconder un mensaje de forma que no se note que existe ese mensaje. La ventaja que tiene la esteganografía en contra de la criptografía es que mientras que en la segunda existe un mensaje cifrado que suele ser un galimatías incomprensible, haciendo que la gente quiera romperlo para poder descubrir el mensaje; en esteganografía suele ser una inocente imagen que en principio no debería tener nada escondido. Como Lenna. Lo que ahora os quitará el sueño (o no) es... cual será el mensaje escondido en ella?

Comparisons

Ayer fui a Girona. La ciudad está bastante bien y pasé un buen dia con la gente con la que fui. Pero hay un problema. Los seres humanos tendemos a comparar y aunque conocemos el dicho de que las comparaciones son odiosas, lo hacemos igualmente. Si no estáis muy despistados, sabréis que he estado en Londres en octubre y también sabréis que me ha encantado, tanto como para no querer volver a Barcelona (y a mi me Encanta Barcelona). El caso es que, para desgracia de Girona (y para desgracia de mis acompañantes de ayer XD), ésta tiene varios puntos en comun con Londres. Digo para desgracia por lo siguiente: En ambas ciudades hay un rio que pasa por la ciudad (y si, estoy siendo muy generoso con uno de los casos :P), la diferencia es que en uno de ellos navegan barcos y el otro, como mucho navegará alguien que se ponga con una wifi a mirar algo en internet. Y claro, en toda ciudad con un rio, no pueden faltar los puentes. Los hay muy variados y de muy diversos colores, pero pondre esos dos aleatoriamente. La verdad es que no hay color. Y no quiero hablar de la catedral porque no soy partidario de hacer leña del arbol caido. No quiero que nadie se sienta ofendido por esto que he escrito y quiero recordar que pase un día agradable pero: lo siento Girona, prueba no superada.

Yesterday I wento to Girona. The city is pretty nice and I spent a good day with the people I was with. But there is a problem. Human beings have a tendency to compare and even when we know that saying that says that comparisons are odious, we do it anyway. If you are not without a clue, you should know I've been in London this October and you should know too that I liked it so much that I didn't want to come back to Barcelona (and I Love Barcelona). The thing is, to Girona's disgrace (and the people that were with me yesterday XD), this city has some things in common with London. And I say to its disgrace because of this: In both cities there is a river crossing it(and yes, I'm being quite generous in one case :P), the difference is that in one of there are boats navigating and in the other one the only thing that could navigate would be if there is someone with wifi to look something in the internet. And of course, in every city that has a river, there are bridges. There are lots of kinds of bridges, but I will speak of those two picked randomly. And truth be told... there's no comparison possible. And I don't want to talk about the cathedral because I'm not the kind of person that likes to pry on the weak. I don't want anyone to be offended with this I've written and I want to remember that I had a wonderful time there but: I'm sorryGirona, you failed.

London: Synbios, Barry and Francesking

My teacher in Francesking was not a common one. I'm not going to discuss every theme we used to learn english, because this is a PG rated blog (most of the time XD), but I'm going to write down one of our asignements. We had to write down a problem we had for him to solve it, as if he were one of those persons in magazines and newspapers that solve people problems.

He was always saying things like: "no, that's not right" and we asked him "why? I've listen/read that somewhere" and he said: "Because that's american". He wasn't really serious about it, but he said it anyway. And as ironic and sarcastic as I am, this was my problem that needed to be solved:

"Dear Barry,

I have a really big problem that only you can help me with. I've been watching too many TV series and movies (sorry, films. See? I'm doing it again) from the United States of America and now my english pronunciation and vocabulary is hazardously contaminated. I've tried to watch some british movies (sorry) but I don't really know that much of the british contritucion to the seventh art, so by the time I saw Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, I was out of options.

But films (yes! I did it!) are not the real problem. Not at all. The real problem are the TV series, since that's were I spend most of my free time. There are so many USA series I like, that I can't just stop watching them. I can't forsake Hiro Nakamura and his quest on saving the world. I can't stop following Jack Bauer in his daily struggles to protect L.A. from terrorist attacks. I can't forget the Island, the 4 8 15 16 23 42 and the Others. What can I do when the only british series I like is The I.T. Crowd? Help me Please."
